“Give us This Day Our Daily Plants” with Tina Ahern: PYP 302

Tina Ahern is a long-time Plant Yourself Podcast listener and supporter. When she reached out to share her inspiring story, I knew I wanted to share it with you.

Long story short, Tina and her husband Brian opened up a partially plant-based restaurant in Perry, Oklahoma, as part of their mission to serve their community through their Christian faith.

Located at 611 Delaware, in Perry, the 611 Bakehouse also echoes Matthew [6:11]: “Give us this day our daily bread.”

You might expect that Perry would not be a hotbed of plant-based eating, and you'd be right. But the Aherns include several plant-based options on their menu, and teach classes on whole food, plant-based eating as part of their “Healthy Living” series.

And slowly, slowly, they're changing the way their neighbors think about food.

If you're in the neighborhood, stop by for a bowl of soup and a sandwich. And say “hi” for me 🙂

In our conversation, Tina and I talk about her journey to health, from being a bulemic gymnast, to having high cholesterol, to witnessing her parents sicken (and her father die) from chronic conditions amenable to lifestyle improvement. And about the joy and privilege that comes with learning new things, doing better, and sharing that knowledge with others.

Enjoy, add your voice to the conversation via the comment box below, and please share – that's how we spread our message and spread our roots.
