A Plant Yourself reader wrote me: “Where can we obtain transcripts? I am deaf.”
I smacked my head for not having thought of this earlier. But at least I'm woke to the issue now.
To offer transcripts, I will need to pay a dollar per minute of audio. The average interview lasts 55-70 minutes, not including the intro and outro segments.
That comes out to somewhere between $220-350 per month, which I would love to do but can't at this point. So I'm reaching out to the Plant Yourself community looking for help.
There are two ways to help. First, you can sponsor an entire month of transcripts for $250 (I'll cover any shortfall or just start talking faster). Second, you can go back through the archives and choose an episode that you'd like to see transcribed.
While I don't accept advertising for the show, I'm willing to make a teeny exception to achieve the goal of making the podcast more accessible to the Deaf and hearing-impaired community. So if you have a business that's not in direct conflict with the mission of the show (I'm looking at you, Monsanto and Perdue and Nabisco), you would get a shout-out at the end of each episode that you sponsor.
As in, “Thanks to Jake's Vegetable Taxidermy. Jake's preserves your produce for bragging rights and future generations. Find them online at VeggieTaxidermy.com.” Plus that same text and a live link in the show notes, and in the footer of the PDF transcript.
If you'd like to donate as a private individual, that's also cool. I can add your name to the breathless roll call at the end of each episode.
It would be awesome to be able to commit to transcripts for the remainder of 2017 at least.
Simply email me at hj@plantyourself if you'd like to help. Thanks!
