Healing America Together with Nelson Campbell: PYP 245

Nelson Campbell is director of PlantPure Nation, and the son of renowned biochemical researcher and future Nobel Prize-winner T. Colin Campbell.

Nelson has a staggeringly ambitious vision for our world: one in which we all work together in love, compassion, and respect to solve our collective problems.

And you know what? If we don't achieve that vision, we're not in good shape as a civilization or a species. So I'm all in favor of us striving to make it happen?

But how? Isn't that just hot air, unrealistic, Utopian thinking? Aren't we humans just hardwired to mess things up for others in the pursuit of our own selfish needs?

Nelson believes otherwise. And he's just announced a launch of a staggeringly ambitious project: Healing America.

I'm honored that he chose the Plant Yourself Podcast as the platform to announce the project to the world, and that he answered my questions (and doubts and fears and objections) with such clarity and generosity.

We discussed:

  • the origins of the vision of Healing America
  • why focusing on food, or even health, is far too narrow a lens to address our problems
  • how to involve local leaders, grassroots organizations, and other stakeholders in large-scale change
  • “it all starts with how we see the world”
  • there are larger truths that can unite us – left and right, rural and urban, you name it
  • how we can empower communities to solve seemingly intractable problems
  • the importance of a more distributed world
  • how to speak with people not as adversaries
  • the problem with relying on government to take care of things
  • “people are unhappy, and have lost sight of their own humanity”
  • the importance of loving and empathizing with others
  • vision: the taproot of transformative change
  • the missing ingredient in our political and social debates: a wholistic perspective
  • why healthy food is the “carrier” of positivity and empowerment
  • how you can help
  • and much more…

Enjoy, add your voice to the conversation via the comment box below, and please share – that's how we spread our message and spread our roots.

Looking for Transformational Change?

You know how when you discovered plant-based eating, you basically went, “Holy shit, how come the entire healthcare system isn't totally embracing this as one of the most powerful keys to disease prevention and reversal!”?

That's how I feel now about a psychological approach to transformational change called “Memory Reconsolidation.” Few psychologists have heard about it, and when they do hear the radical transformations it can bring about in a very short time, they're often skeptical to the point of disbelief.

But I've added Memory Reconsolidation work to my own coaching, and can attest to its amazing efficacy. So much so, that I'm devoting the next year to mastering it, studying with the best clinicians and teachers in the world, and then introducing it into health coaching through my trainings.

Right now, I want to triple my coaching practice to get more and more opportunities to do this work. And I'm lowering my fees – a lot – to make it easier for people to work with me.

If you're interested in working with me (and willing to commit to a minimum of 2 months), click the link below to open the form in a new browser tab and I'll get back to you within 3 business days.

Yes, I'm interested in Memory Reconsolidation Coaching.

You CAN Change Other People!

Well, that's what Peter Bregman and I claim in our provocative book of that title.

What we really mean is, you can help the people around you make behavioral changes in their own best interests. If you think you're powerless to help people change, it's because you've been going about it the wrong way.

Discover our straightforward, replicable process here: You Can Change Other People.

Audiobook: Use the Weight to Lose the Weight

Listen to Josh LaJaunie and me narrate our latest audiobook, about how to start moving when you're obese.

It's $10, and Josh and I split it evenly 🙂

If I can be of help contact me. I have coached age group swimming 38 yrs in my life. During those years I improved the health of many young kids. I also believe if we could go into nursing homes and get them on whole foods instead of processed foods. I read where this nurse presented the idea and it was turned down. If that could be accomplished many drugs would be eliminated. Along with an exercise program. I am 75 eat mostly plants base and exercise about 400 minutes per week.

I’ve just started my plant based life. Looking forward to my doctors visit in April, I turn 60. I’m a a black female, menopausal, migraines and allergies. Would love to get off migraine meds.

Well I picked up the book The China Study at goodwill! I knew it was going to be diet focused but I admit to being shocked as I read.. that this book was saying no meat…no diary…including milk. Wow.
But I read the book in 2 days and on Oct 1st I am starting a plant based whole food diet.
I mean..no fish! No eggs? No butter at all? Well this will not be easy. But nothing else has helped at all. Not calorie counting… not weight watchers. .. not intermittent fasting. So I am going to do this 30 days…at a time! Wish me luck. If it works , my next children’s book will be about fresh whole foods!!! 🙂

      1. Howard says:

Best of luck to you, Robin!

The page “start a pod” is not available on the plant pure pod page. I’m interested in this for my community in Bowie, Maryland.

  3. M Sullivan says:

How can I help in Rhode Island? The video is truthful and inspiring. Grassroots in numbers has always made changes. I was born in Kentucky. And spent summers to raise tobacco for family. I recall picking a watermelon for my 10th birthday nearly 50 years ago. The land was plush with streams of fresh water and vast amounts of fruits and vegetable gardens on my aunt’s land. As time changed and no one in the family interested in farming or land, my uncle and aunt sold the 60+ acres. Yes, we must turn our country around and reclaim the health and lives of our people and restore the land and earth God gave us.
